We like showing off the work we print. This policy explains exactly when we will and will not use your designs, your photographs or images of your order, and how to stop us. It forms part of your contract with us.
1. The rule
We will only use your design, your photographs, or images of your order for marketing if you have actively opted in. An opt-in means you ticked a box that was empty by default, or gave us a clear, separate permission.
We will never treat these as consent:
buying from us;
using the editor;
saving or sharing a design privately;
accepting these terms;
doing nothing, or failing to opt out.
2. The two opt-ins
There are two, they are separate, and you can give one, both or neither.
2.1 The order opt-in. At checkout, and when you upload a design, there is an unticked box. If you tick it, you allow us to use:
photographs of your finished order;
the order itself — the product, the design, the colours, the layout — as an example of what we make;
any photograph of your order that you send us, or post publicly and tag us in.
2.2 The design opt-in. In the editor, when you save a design, there is a separate unticked box. If you tick it, you allow us to feature that design in our marketing — on our website, social media, email, adverts and printed material.
2.3 You can give one, both or neither, and neither is a condition of buying from us or using the editor. If you decline, nothing about your order or your experience changes.
3. What we may do, if you opt in
3.1 With your opt-in, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to use, reproduce, adapt (for example, cropping or resizing), display and share your design, your photographs, and images of your order for our marketing and promotion. This includes our website, social media, email, paid adverts and printed material.
3.2 The licence lasts until you withdraw it. It is not perpetual and it is not irrevocable.
3.3 We will not sub-license your design to a third party for their own purposes, and we will not sell it.
3.4 We will not use your design in a way that suggests you endorse us or are connected with us, without asking you first.
4. What we will not do
4.1 We will not show personal information — names, addresses, order numbers, email addresses — in any image we publish.
4.2 We will not publish images of identifiable people without their permission, and we will not publish images of anyone under 18 without a parent or guardian's permission.
4.3 We will not use a design for marketing if we think it contains third-party intellectual property, or if you have told us it is confidential or private.
4.4 If a design or order was produced for a business customer under the Trade & Corporate Terms, we will ask that customer whether we may use it in our marketing. If they agree, that permission continues until they withdraw it. If they do not agree, or do not reply, we will not use it.
5. Credit
5.1 Where it is practical, we will credit you using the name or handle you ask us to use — for example your Instagram handle or your first name and initial.
5.2 We do not guarantee a particular form of credit, and you are not obliged to be credited if you would rather not be.
5.3 You can tell us the name or handle you would like us to credit when you give your opt-in, or at any time afterwards by emailing contact@techtoppers.co.uk.
6. Withdrawing your opt-in
6.1 You can withdraw at any time. Email contact@techtoppers.co.uk saying which design or image, and that you are withdrawing your permission. You do not have to give a reason.
6.2 Once you withdraw, we will stop using it, and we will remove it from the channels we control as soon as we reasonably can — normally within 10 working days.
6.3 We may not be able to recall printed material that has already been distributed, or content other people have already shared or reposted. We will not use it again.
6.4 Withdrawing your marketing opt-in does not affect your order, your account, or any other permission in these policies.
7. If you tag us or use our hashtag
7.1 If you post a photograph of your order and tag us, mention us or use one of our hashtags, you are not automatically giving us permission to reuse it. We will ask you first, or reply asking whether we may share it.
7.2 If you reply to such a request saying yes, that is a valid opt-in for that image, and section 3 applies.
7.3 We may share or repost content using the platform's own built-in share or repost feature, which keeps your post attributed to your account. That is not reuse of your content as marketing, and we will still ask before using it anywhere else.
8. Public design library
The public design library is not yet open to customers — we populate it ourselves at present. See the Design & Content Policy.
When it does open, publishing a design will not by itself give us permission to use it in our own advertising. Being shown in the library is not the same as appearing in an advert, and we will still rely on the design opt-in in section 2.2 before using anything in our marketing.
9. Our records
9.1 We keep a record of what you opted into, when, and how, so we can show that we have your permission if you ever ask.
9.2 You can ask us at any time what we hold about your opt-ins. See our Privacy Policy for how to make a request.
